For some reason I was looking for a pillowcase pattern on the internet and I found the nicest site. I will attach the information at the end of this blog.
I really like the idea of sewing pretty pillowcases to donate to people who are in hospitals, nursing homes, homeless shelters, etc. This is a good project to use to teach young people to sew as well. If you are a life-long fabric collector, you probably have several pieces of fabric that you have no plans for, and you could use them up in this project.
So far, over 200,000 pillowcases have been donated. The goal is one million.
I am embarrassed to admit that I have sewn up several sets of pillowcases, but I gave them away to people I love for Christmas. I guess this would count as donations (in a way).
When you look at the site, you will find several nice patterns for pretty pillowcases. I printed off one to get the dimensions for the body of the pillowcase and for the finished band. I had started a plaid quilt sometime ago, so I had some strips of plaid squares sewn together. Since the plaid quilt project has slowed down to a stop, I used some of the strips of plaid to make a set of denim pillowcases with a plaid band. I have a photo of those to show you. Other pillowcase photos can be found on the sidebar in photos.
If you like this idea, please put a comment, and if you happen to make some pillowcases, please send me an email with photo attached, and I will post it. To send me an email, use the address: [email protected].
