I have had my Kindle since the price was over $300. So I am really impressed with this price. As I understand it, when you buy the Kindle at this price, there is some advertising on it, but that shouldn't be a big deal. When you don't turn off your Kindle and don't do anything on it for a little while, a screensaver comes up. On mine, the screensavers are pictures of different authors. I think that some of the advertising will come up as screensavers instead of the author pictures.
Recently I have downloaded a few games on mine. One I have fun with is Minesweeper. There are some word games, sudoku, etc.
You can also connect with the internet and check email, FB, etc. The internet is not fast or in color, but it is ok. AND, there is no fee for using the internet on the Kindle.
Another feature that I find useful is the dictionary. If you move the cursor to a word, an automatic dictionary pops up at the bottom of the screen.
The first book I read on my Kindle was by Stephen King about Kindle. It kind of made me afraid of my Kindle, but I got over it. lol
Recently Amazon added a feature for books to be loaned among Kindle users for a period of time.
