In an effort to improve our diet, I have been learning about whole grains, natural foods, organic foods and how to prepare and use them. I have listed some of the products I have purchased from Amazon below.
The rice cooker is a quick and easy way to prepare the rice blends from Rice Select. One word of caution: Watch carefully the first time you cook rice in the rice cooker. You may need to adjust the water and rice when you cook the rice. After you figure out how soft you want your rice to be, then next time you may want to increase or decrease the amount of water. Also, the little rice measuring cup that is included with the rice cooker and the lines on the cooking bowl are not exactly the same as a regular measuring cup. Experiment to find exactly the right proportions of rice and water to use. (One thing I really like about this rice cooker is that it is CHEAP)
The Rice Cooker cookbook has lots of interesting information about the different types of rice and how to cook them. It also has history and nutrition information about rice. I haven't actually used the recipes yet, but I am learning all about rice. It also explains the different kinds of rice cookers and how they compare.
The Rice Select Sampler is WONDERFUL. The rice comes in 32 oz plastic containers that look nice as well as keep the rice in airtight containers. I hate rice in little plastic bags. All of the information I have read describes the rice as grown in the US, organic, whole grain and organic. There may be some varieties that are not all of those things, but the ones that I have read about are. The website for Rice Select is www.riceselect.com. The website has a nice selection of recipes, as well as nutritional information and other interesting information about their products.
The health benefits of eating whole grains are huge. As I have read and learned more about these benefits, I have tried to add more and more whole grains to our diet. Another factor is the low cost relative to the benefits.
If you find a great recipe using rice, add it to the comments section so I can give it a try.
that is some good writing and good information :)
